Strange job this one. The client had already chosen and commissioned and artist but must have got cold feet because they requested more samples from other artists. I was ‘lucky’ enough to be one of them. Even though I knew the Illustrations were doomed it was a good opportunity to do a little experimentation while being paid a little money.
In this case my experiment was to try to work faster by using flat colour and lines only where needed. I think it came out well and is a technique that is now finding it’s way into my day to day work.

Definitely some outline, you may call them highlights but they are lines!
Great stuff, Dave! The client’s loss, not using it. How do you use Sketchbook Pro? Do you have a Cintiq? I can’t do anything decent with it, SP.
These are fantastic! Like the technique, it looks great!

Cheers Zeb:
I have an old Acer tablet PC. SBP just makes sense of it. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a Cintiq
Thanks Chad.
Nice work Dave. Show us more!
Thanks Holger. I’m swamped with client work at the moment so updating the blog is at the bottom of the pile. I will get ’round to it though!
